Wildlife Exhibitons and meeting the President of India

Looks like the WWF exhibition has finally come to Bangalore and it is being held this weekend at Taj Residency. I have no idea how many of my photographs are being displayed, but there should be quite a few. If you are in that area, do swing by between 11am and 8pm on the 14th and 15th of Oct.

However, I will not be around at the exhibition.

The President of India is coming over to BR hills this sunday to attend the 25th year celebrations of the local tribal NGO : VGKK. I’m displaying/exhibiting my BR hills photograph for the pres and hope to spend 5 – 10 min with him talking about BR hills ecosystem and landscape. I’m very honored to be given 5 min off his 1 hour schedule at BR hills after which he will fly back to Bangalore.

Abdul Kalam has spent time in BR hills too it seems. Before he became the president, he was down there for more than a week as he really loved the forest and the tribals and the work that VGKK was doing. I hope to showcase the biodiversity of BR hills and also talk to him a bit about conservation at BR hills.

I have lot of work the next 2 days as I have to take all the framed prints to BR hills and put them all around a big hall, in middle of hundreds of security people who have come down to do the security arrangements.

I was telling Anirudh that you were going to make a presentation to the president and he asked, “president of what?” and he suddenly snapped to attention when he heard my answer…it was an Eyeball-Pop moment!

Everyone…no need to go on time and have hassles…just walk in confidently after about 8 pm or so,in case you haven’t been able to organize an invite.

I do wish, Kallu, that both could have happened at different weekends…and when was around!

…there are some celebrites who don’t let their celeb-ness go to their head, but continue their work.

I hope the Pres will take keen interest in conservation efforts on a nation-wide scale after this visit.
We need all the political will to save our forest cover and wildlife.

    Re: Congrats

Kalyan, Best wishes for your presentation. From my first hand experience, Kalam Uncle comes alive in the presence of young blood especially if they have brains to go with it.
And he sure has/had a green thumb and is very conscious of his responsibility towards our environment. This man transformed the place I grew up in (Hyd), into one of the greenest pockets in the city.
    Break a leg 🙂

its very heartening to know our President has his priorities set right! I really hope this visit pays off for the wildlife cause. 🙂

Kalyan…many of us are going to the exhibition and I want to take a couple of snaps there, so that you get an idea of how your photos were shown, etc.

And regarding and his post on celebrities…the post you are referring to is not the only thing *I* am referring to… and I have been having a further conversation about celebrity and celebrities, in which he has said that celebrity status is often a counter-productive thing as it a) cuts off the celebrity from hes peers and b) often prevents the celebrity from improving hes work as a sense of complacency can sometimes set in. (I think that Jace himself is proof that his theory is not always correct!)

For a “celebrity of substance”, however, fame is just a by-product of the work done and not something to be taken over-seriously; it is not something the person seeks, or would be unhappy without. It is the “famous-for-being-well-known” celebrities for whom fame is a necessary; and who will shrivel up into nothingness without the celeb status.

Oh, well, you will read all this only after you have come back to Bangalore…all of us wish you the very best for your presentation.
