Photographs from BR Hills

This is the view from top of Honnamati hill at BR hills. My favorite place on earth.

BR Hills
The valley that you see is about 30% of this amazing wilderness paradise called BR hills. This wildlife sanctuary is in a valley which is protected on all the sides by hills, which keeps it relatively less disturbed. I was at the right place at the right time to have captured this ray of light falling on the forest cover through the monsoon clouds.

My last two trips have been very fruitful in terms of photography. I’ve managed to upload the first set to my site. Will upload the rest when I find time again.

People flock at Yosemite to have picnics, see large monoliths, do some rock climbing, river-rafting, camping, hiking, cycling, skiing (during winter), para-gliding and so on. How many of the millions come to see wildlife, or how many see wildlife? BR Hills is not Yosemite because it does not have the spectacular landscape but BR Hills is also not Yosemite since it has so much spectacular wildlife to talk about. I, or Kalyan, or anyone who likes animals, would not want to see BR hills become a playground for man at the cost of animals losing their habitat.

    > Tourism and appreciation for nature is far left behind in India

Really? Could you try getting a weekend booking for any of the JLR resorts a month in advance? 😉

To be fair, I think Yosemite is more beautiful as a landscape than any of our southern India places. Perhaps, the North-eastern India and the Himalayas are slightly better than Yosemite when it comes to landscape.

Of course, the attractions of Kudremukh, Muthodi and BR Hills are for different reasons as we all know! 😉

You’re right Yathin. Perhaps I shud have rephrased my email to mention that tourism (wildlife, hiking, etc .. or just awareness of a place ) is limited to only those who are knowledgeable or are aware of the same. BR Hills in this case (and many other places in India) maybe deserves a lot of attention than it is now

    Superb pic

I use great pics on my site, although it is actually about relief from back, neck and shoulder pain.

Would any of your photos be available for use on my site, where I sell nothing, but I do have surprisingly informative Google ads.

    Please advise.

    Breathtaking!

This picture is amazing. You have beautifully captured the sun rays percing through the clouds. I have been a silent admirer of your photographs. When I saw this picture I had to let you know it touched my soul.

    Simply fantastic.
