Elephant Charge

The elephants in the forests know we do not harm them directly, but they still are very careful in the presence of humans and are always on alert when they smell us. This female was staring at us for a while and then suddenly decided we were a threat and did the most amazing charge towards our jeep I’ve ever seen in my life.

In other news, am down with fever here. Luckly its because of cold and not because of some freak insect bite.

looks like she’s enjoying her dinner.

perhaps some green leafy vitamin-chocked veggies would do the trick for your fever… i think your elephant friend knows where to find a good supply! get well 🙂

How close did it get to your jeep?

  3. admin · January 17, 2005 Reply

About 3 feet. It could have grabbed the jeep if it has extended its trunk.

When you were a kid, you didnt even know what musth was, and you claim they were all in musth 😉

I am not denying you getting charged, just don’t spice it up so much

That is close! Would have liked to see the expressions of the people in the jeep!

That was an issue. we had bunch of old people in the jeep and they totally freaked out. I wanted to stay there for a while and stuff, but they insisted that we leave at once.

I am waiting for a day when the camp is totally emply and I can just go on a drive and do what I like

    Not exactly an appreciative bunch…

Was it a mock or you really got it? Did it have a baby around?

Have Fun. Careful Don’t get killed.

The Old jungle saying goes that the Soligas and other tribes think of the elephant as the most dangerous animal in the Jungle.

Wow what an adventure. how fast can elephants run. are they not faster on the mud roads than the jeeps.

    be careful and have fun.

Reminds me of what happened to me while driving through Madumalai Wildlife Sanctuary … the elephant missed our jeep by inches only because the dirver shoved his foot as hard as he could on the accelerator. Our guide who was sitting with us at the back, on the spare tyre with his butt sticking out experienced a near death … It took 2 hours for his heart rate to come down for he thought he was a goner and said that his entire life flashed before him in those microseconds …

( it happened because we stopped to see elephants on the right side of the path … upclose … but never realised that this group was crossing and there was the leader on the left side … which got really pisssed and charged to show who was boss … and we drove away as fast as we could tail between our legs 😉

go here for my first experience of a tusker charge (at our bus when in BR Hills )

    NICE PIC.
Now, is the fever because of cold or the charge? (just kidding!)
Well, get well soon, have a safe adventure.
