My new baby

After wanting it for more than a year, it was finally time to do the jump for the new Mahindra Scorpio. Too bad the new Scorpio does not come in green, so I went for the next best color – Ivory Grey. I just don’t have budget right now to paint it all green. The vehicle comes with 4-wheel drive, which is perfect for all my wildlife needs. The color is quite decent for forest use anyway. The CRDe engine is very quiet and Mahindra finally fixed the suspension issues that the original Scorpios had.

There is enough place at the back to carry all my gear including studio lights, sleeping bags etc. Finally people look up at me than look down on me on the Bangalore roads. Driving at an elevation works really well for the city traffic.

I need to learn how to do self-portraits once of these days. For what it’s worth, I finally have enough leg space.

    It’s nice, but….

It looks nice, but I don’t think the lens port in the center of the front hood is large enough for your biggest glass. I can see the 17-55/2.8 or the 18-200VR fitting in there, but no way the 70-200/2.8 or anything larger will work…

    🙂

    New Baby!

Best of luck in your new car and for the new year. Just wanted to say thanks for the use of your site etc. I’ve been a constant visitor for the last 2 weeks as my wife and I are coming over from the UK at the end of Jan for 6 weeks to tour virtually the whole of the Western Ghats – mainly for the birds and wildlife. I’ve found out more through your site and it’s leads than all the ‘guide books’ put together. Its a great site – thanks very much, and the photographs have given us great pleasure.
I’ve enjoyed photography too for many years now and will come with D200/70-200VR etc. If you’ve time to comment – I’m thinking of a Teleconverter (TCE1.7II) to beef up lens power – any comments?
    Drive carefully!

    Nice

The old ones had TERRIBLE suspension issues. I remember getting tossed around like a rag dog on the main road to Hampi a few years back. We hit a pot hole and everyone flew in they air. What a piece!

You can say that again:-) Bigger vehicles rule. I take my car on to the footpath when I see those KSRTC Airavath busses eg.;-)

Congrats! CRDe should be sweet. I drove one of the old ones and I was not impressed…

  34. prashanthks · January 10, 2007 Reply

congrats mate and all the best. yup, those suvs give an imposing character on the road. tho nothing can beat the presence of a safari, the scorpio is the best for city traffic. didnt you get an SLX? which variant is this? I kind of dont like the tilted gear lever, everything else rocks on the scorpio.

    Hello

    Bye

I thought the Silvery Black colour choice was more of “Mclaren worship” more than “Better colour” theory ???

Was that the secret agenda behind it !! ??

secondly whats that protrution on the wheels…havent noticed it before !

  39. admin · January 10, 2007 Reply

Heh.. I didnt think about the Mclaren connection till now 🙂

The thing on the wheels come on the 4WD vehicles. Its kinda annoying if you ask me.

  40. admin · January 10, 2007 Reply

The 4WD comes only in the DX model. Besides, I would have gone for DX anyway.. as SLX has too many non-essencial features.

  41. admin · January 10, 2007 Reply

so far so good.. I just drove to BR hills and back within 10 hours and still fresh like hell.

  42. admin · January 10, 2007 Reply

hehe.. somehow the bike and auto rides do not give the same respect 🙂

  43. admin · January 10, 2007 Reply

the 800 still has amazing power and the car itself never ever gave up on me. But yeah.. I like the leg space now 🙂

  44. admin · January 10, 2007 Reply

    Re: New Baby!

Yep.. go for that TC. Infact I used to use the 2.0 TC and the results were mostly ok. Feel free to ping me when you are down here if you need any help at the ghats. I hope you have thattekad in your agenda.

  45. premkudva · January 11, 2007 Reply

Ah that is easily explainable, they are suicidal in nature. So bigger the vehicle greater the urge to come under it;-)
