Saddam’s Execution

It’s the worst thing that US has done since the post-911 attacks. Not just the execution, but the fact that the actual execution was filmed and telecasted all around the world. The scene somehow was much more gruesome than all those al-qaeda be-heading videos.

I just saw the video of the execution and can’t help but think that George Bush deserves that more than Saddam. George Bush killed more people than saddam indirectly and has put the whole world in an unstable future. Muslim countries will unite even more to fight against the US now and if I was living in the middle-east, I would share the same sentiments against the US (not that I do not at the moment)

enough.

I share the same thoughts as you.
It was gruesome to show the video and the repeats on the channels all day long. Disturbed me quite a bit.
I in no way support Saddam, but still it made me sad.

Already more than 80 people died of attacks in Iraq yesterday.
There are so many dictators who were given asylum. Saddam’s crimes were during war time and the laws are different for the war time crime. Definitely Bush is mad. Even a layman can think that this will seriously increase the terrorism. I should say saddam is really shrewed, he made sure he didn’t wear a mask during the execution. The effect of the video with his face shown so clearly will surely make him a martyr in the Arab community.
    Whatever happened is really bad.

Surprising to see the video floating on google videos already…
Read this article here. Sad but true, 3000 US soldiers, nearly 900,000 Iraqi deaths during the last 3 yrs of the war (Source : Wikipedia”.
It’s hard to believe how Bush’s supporters continue to exist in an absolute ignorance

There are some good reasons why the execution footage should not have been shown on TV. Chief among them, at least for me, is that kids will see it. It’s funny how sex is censored but violence, and actual killing, isn’t. Now an entire generation of American kids will grow up believing that America is supreme and has a God-given right to dominate the world. One of those kids is going to become the President.

My appeal to American parents: tell your kids what your government has done is evil. It may be a necessary evil, but leave it to them to figure that out.

    AWFUL.

Osama spearheads the Twin Towers attack. Iraq is attacked, Saddam is killed…what sort of politics is this?

Today is Eid. I wish all the muslims a happy Eid. Look past all the attacks on they’re culture and religion.. look at them as people. Saddam , Bush and Osama play they’re dirty games but innocent people die in the cross fire.
We people have written our own destruction when we gave our power into they’re hands!!

“Muslim countries will unite even more to fight against the US now..”

None of the “Muslim countries” except Iran are democratic. They are nothing but stooges of US.

The Middle-East policy of US goes something like->

If a country has Oil and is willing to offer it to US at cheap rates and in a dependable manner-then
1.Democracy is not at all required in that country.
2.Those monarchist/theocratic/anti-woman/anti-freedom/Neanderthal regimes will be given all kinds of support.

And Saddam was executed for a crime that he had committed back in 1980s in complicity with USA.

Kalyan, A very sensible post. I share the same thoughts.

  10. Anonymous · January 2, 2007 Reply

    I disagree

    Hi Kalyan:

    1) Saddam was executed by the judiciary of a democratically elected govt. in Iraq. Your statement is not respectful of the Republic of Iraq.
In fact Us govt. wanted to postpone the execution: http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/07/front2454103.1104166666.html

    2) Saddam wasn’t a saint. Set aside the attrocities commited by this compassionate man and his two graceful sons, if his regime had nothing to hide, why defy UN resolutions year after another and drive the inspectors repeatedly by violating the ceasefire agreement he signed in 1991. Who would not take UN seriously after this? Give it a honest thought.

BTW. I admire your photographic work and the blogs. Keep up the good work.

    Regards,
    Uncle Sam

Well, the US had no hand in the execution, it has been ordered by the Iraqi court and approved by the Iraqi prime minister, and the leakage of the tape is by the people who were present there and who illegally taped and leaked it. It is sad that many innocent people got killed but who would have put an end to Saddam’s deeds if none interfered ??.

    Unbelievable

I just cannot stand you people supporting evil. If you or your brothers or sisters or relatives lost their lives or limbs because of this mad man’s excursion with his own imagination for the sake of his own entertainment, you will not be writing all these.
You guys in india has not seen the type of terrorizing thats happening in many parts of the world. You guys lived a laid back life of no pain no gain attitude will never understand the difference between evil and good. You people are so emotionally imbalanced and biased heavily towards charismatic personalities – whatever they are -. Just imagine your dictator from bombay sends an army into bangalore with cans of chemicals to be sprayed at everyone’s face, telling you it is a perfume! I am sure you will welcome those with open hands and embrace!
    Nonsense.

    Dr. Mr. Unbelievable,

Do not oversimplyfy things and stereotype all Indians. We have conscience and debate things with respect to each other. India has borne constant burden of terrorism (you will see that, if kept in touch with world history). If you have some logical argument to offer you can always do that by not hitting below the belt. Be a man.

true to the core. he got what he deserved ? well there should be some justice in this world.

  16. Anonymous · January 5, 2007 Reply

    totally disagree

If your opinion is based on the way the execution took place, you should first know that it did not take place under US supervision. And had US not made way for his trial he’d have been beheaded/ cut to pieces by people of his own country whom he gassed, murdered and humiliated for years.[FYI, saddam was a sunni(a minority sect) and had commited vast atrocities on shias(the majority)and was into bio chemical weapons with evil in sight. ]

    You should thank bush –
for fighting against radicals like al qaida.
    for fighting against terrorism.
for ousting evil regimes such as the taliban, saddam who humiliated their
    own people

You should salute the man for his guts for which world leader/or US pres you would think can take them head-on,declare war on them and pouring in enormous resources to fight and then rebuild the torn nation from scratch. And all this is not worth the oil that they can expect back from them.

Its easy to say “bush killed more people indirectly” for innocent live are lost in every war , be it a civil war (see african countries),partition (USSR/india-pak), in a communal strife (see gujrat), evil regimes (see taliban) and every war, in terrorist attacks etc. Here you have someone to blame directly, like osama, like saddam, like edi amin etc.

Just take kashmir for example.scores of Innocent lives are lost there too, everyday. Now whom do you blame that on ? India? pakistan ? US ? Bush ? or freedom fighters ? terrorists ? who is responsible ? And had it not been for the US, there would have been even more infiltrations across the border, many more attacks on innocents, pak would be at war now.

The general psychology of people is to find someone to blame for what is happening and not try to see the real situation.Am afraid you belong to such a category.

Bush opened what ‘seems’ like a pandora’s box…which had to be opened someday by someone or it would manifest in even more evil.Everybody should unite to fight the evil. The only other choice is to find someone to blame.

And regarding oil – If it so happens that most of the world’s crude oil resources are controlled by radicals then imagine what would happen to lives of people, ecomonies of dependent countries.

You should also know, each one of us are the direct beneficiaries of bush’s war on terror in many many ways.

    high end tele lenses ?

so what should have been done according to you ?

Leave saddam to continue atrocities on his people ?
    let him host terrorists ?
let him build bio-chemical weapons ?
sell him your software / nuclear warhead in return for crude ?

The death toll only goes to show the communal tension that had built up during saddam’s regime. Now there is a civil war.And even US troops have died in big way..they are fighting the enemy they dont see, just like india.

Its ridiculous that educated people like you have such narrow anlge of view just like your high-end tele lenses. see wide 😉

Re: Unbelievable Indian and proud to be an indian

    Uncle Samosa,
that is the shocking truth what Dr, Mr, un-be is telling. It happenes in many parts of the world.Americans have witenssed it at 9/11, Indians have witnessed it form of many attacks.Bush dont sit and debate on why they should have killed innocents in dastardly attacks.Instead he get into action.Thats the problem with indians isn’t it. Sit and debate and debate and debate and debate until the war is over or the other party gets bored to death.

Re: high end tele lenses ?

Err.. you are missing the point.

No one is saying saddam should be left free. We all know what he has done. What we are trying to say is that he should have had a fair trail in international court without US involvement… and the chair was a bad idea in this case.

  21. Anonymous · January 5, 2007 Reply

Dont think saddam’s execution can be linked to increase in terrorism…for terrorists live and grow not for saddam but to kill innocents anyway to achieve their evil designs for the world.

saddam isolated himself from the arab world long back and attacking another arab country and having ambitions to rule and occupy arab nations. So they would reamin indifferent.Others will be forced to keep quiet to show their support to the US. The rest who do not support US will down play the execution.

Still others may think saddam as martyr….coz they’d think any man being executed is a martyr.

I’d say saddam got a very fair trial.he had his time. he ruled the country by his foot. held it with its neck and played.lived by the sword and died the same.hitler commited suicide instead of falling into enemy’s hands. this fella was so damn shameless…hung on and on.. to spread more evil till his last breath.

Re: high end tele lenses ?

true , had he been given a trial at international court he may have escaped with rest of his life in jail/ asylum etc. and also if he were to be executed it would have been done much more professionally. And ofcourse it would have pleased ‘cultured & civilised’ individuals our ‘intellectual’ society is made up of.

but dont you think he deserved it for what he did ? whoever the court was, the outcome was ‘just’. he had it coming.Instead of looking at how he was executed and blaming bush for it, i am saying you should look at the whole picture.

y do you think “George Bush deserves that more than Saddam”.read my last post on ‘y you should thank bush’ and substantiate if you have some valid points.

    i totally get your point.

i think that people who commit crimes like that should simply be forced to work the rest of their lives helping those suffering in some way and make good use of themselves. violence only creates more crime and violence. the way to lessen terror is to work on healing in any way possible.
