The Anamalai hills form one of the most important conservation areas in the Western Ghats hill range, a global biodiversity hotspot. Within this range one can find a nearly complete spectrum of vegetation types found in the Western Ghats from the tropical dry thorn forests in the foothills on the eastern rain-shadow regions to tropical deciduous and wet evergreen forests, shola forests and grasslands in the higher reaches, bamboo and cane brakes, swamps and bogs, and riverine forests and cliffs. This site presents a database of plant species known to occur in the Anamalai hills. The database currently comprises primarily woody plant species of the Anamalai hills, represented by 116 families, 430 genera and 800 plant species. The database is being constantly updated--please check back here regularly for updated information and material.
