Linux Desktop Conference and Beagle

Was at the Linux Desktop Conference today, and as expected Nat Friedman (another pic) and Jon Trowbridge thrilled and inspired the crowds.

Jon’s Beagle project seems to be a very interesting. Its a tool for indexing and searching your data, and when I say your data, its your emails, IM’s, files on the hard disk, irc logs and your web data. Looks like Ximian folks have beaten Google/Yahoo/Microsoft and Apple ( well sort of ) to it. I just hope all the Ximian hacks hit stable soon and come out in linux distros.

yeah.. infact beagle is a daemon which indexes stuff and keeps info in real time. Eventually dashboard will be the frontend that will pull info off this.

Yup, dashboard is what you see up front , beagle is a backend engine which has come out of Lucene.Net originally a java indexer.

The history behind beagle is pretty cool. The original project was supposed to be dashboard but now the whole focus has shifted to Beagle, because the old indexer wasnt really good.
