Mobile phone recommendations ?
My age old Nokia 3310 finally gave up yesterday. It seems to reboot every 5 min for no reason.
I am looking to buy a new one, but I have no clue which one to buy. I do not want a camera phone nor anything with fancy Internet/wap/email shit. The phone should be physically durable ( I have the tendency to drop the phone very often or spill water over it), relatively light and small and it should have decent bit of features to work with my laptop (GPRS/IR ?).
Can anyone suggest a good one in 10-15k range?
Re: Online mobile phone comparision…
T610 and 6600 are not comparable. The 6600 runs Symbian and Java, which the T610 doesn’t.
– You dont need an Apple Laptop. I have a Sager 5680 (http://www.pctorque.com) which comes with a mini-USB Bluetooth. And, my roommate’s Dell came with it too. Also, Bluetooth dongles come for < $20 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=616692&sku=B133-4000)
– I check mapquest, and also ssh in to check mail using GPRS over bluetooth. No, I dont need to plug in any wires. I just carry my laptop and my phone. I hate wires as much as you do. 🙂
– Speaking out “Answer” answers my call and I can talk on my Jabra BT200 headset while I’m cooking/watching TV/typing. I can dial without thrusting my hand into my jeans and pulling my phone out – Voice dialing thru my Bluetooth Headset.
– I can control my XMMS from my phone. I’m just waiting for these guys (http://openbrain.co.kr) to come out with their Bluetooth headphones. There’s already an ALSA driver for Bluetooth headsets. The current headsets are 8khz/mono only since they’re only for mobile phones, but I use them to listen to mp3s some times too. Once the stereo headphones come out, I think my next addition would be a bluetooth mp3 player! 🙂
Think outside the box.
Phones suck. Use smoke signals.

Don’t fuck with canadian moose, son. No, really

Oh, btw, did I mention that the T610 simply rox? 🙂
Moose ain’t no match for bull.

Re: Stay away from Nokia color phones
The cell info display is available with SE phones. It would be in one of those SMS / Messages menu. They placed it there probably because it is a Cell Broadcast Message service.
Which Service
Forget Phones. These days every phone is damn good in some way. But which service is good btw HUTCH,SPICE,AIRTEL, and BSNl’s CELLONE.

The t610 is not delicate. Nice solid phone, i’ve dropped it off a table a couple of times, nothing happened. Screen gets scratched though.
If you are looking for a geek phone but are shying away from the smartphones (p800/p900) then this is it. Bluetooth, IRDA, camera, 65k color screen, the ability to upload pictures, music, whatever. The t630 is an updated model and slightly more expensive but is too girlish for my taste. The screen is better though, which might be enough reason to buy it.
Got the T610 today. thanks
