Office moves and fresh Installs

I moved to my new office on MG road this week. Because of some legal shit , we are not allowed to take out old machines. So it was that time of the year when I start with fresh BSD install, then download wmaker/fetchmail/galeon etc etc. Have done it after a long time and finally things are falling in place. Atleast the hardware of my new box rocks.

The laptop came to the rescue. I could move all my data around from my laptop. ( though it still runs only winXP ).

With the new machine, I intend to move to firebird from galeon, mutt from pine. Lets see how both of them will go.

    Moving to Mutt….

The most important line in a muttrc if you are moving from pine.(moving back and forth even accidentally can cause serious damage!)

    # Miscellaneous stuff
set move=no # Prevents major disasters like August 2001

I lost 3 months of mails because of this during my first shot at moving to mutt… if pine sees a ~/mailbox … it’ll move all the mail from your spool into that box without prompting! And mutt keeps prompting if you want to move all read mails into ~/mailbox.)

BTW now that you’re at MG Road, I’ll prolly drop in sometime ;-D I live opposite your office, but only come home on weekends 🙂

Yeah, Pine can be hard to give up. I’ve been using Mozilla Mail/Thunderbird for a year now. v0.2 was released just a few days back.

Dude.. most normal people prefer to “live” at *home* and “work” at their office!

you might want to use this : muttrc builder

helped me quite a bit, and worked without any damage.
as kingsly was saying : be very careful

Oh yes, speaking of which, I wanted to let ya into this.

    Try adding:

    my_hdr From: jessyleen@youremailaddress.net (Jessica Prabhakar)

inside your ~/.muttrc using your favorite editor. I noticed your mailer does not currently have a sender-name set.

Also, you might want to run /usr/bin/chfn and since /usr/bin will likely be in your path, just “chfn” at a shell prompt should work …
