Amazing new ISP and ofcourse with it monopoly
BSNL this week launched its ISP arm named ‘NetOne‘ in Bangalore, which lets you connect without any internet packs or complex procedure. Here’s the press release
Benefits ?
– 10 paise / min ( ~ 10 cents per hour )
– You can postpay the bill (along with the telephone bill), without any installation/setup charges.
– You can register online or just call 172222 ( notice that this was the ex-VSNL dial-up number) and register by phone.
– Your phone number is the username and they use callerID to check if they match ( no more stealing accounts )
Not only it is the best deal out there, the fact that it is so easy is going to be a big issue for other ISP’s. I mean lets face it, how can any other ISP compete in the dial-up market anymore. Looks like BSNL just did a Miscrosoft.
Ofcourse I am still using this service 🙂
Woah – correction:
That’s Rs.0.10 per minute *Internet* time. You have to add phone costs to this (approx Rs.0.40/min daytime, Rs.0.12/min night).
It still works out very cheap, especially if you are on one of BSNL’s “Super” plans which wipe out most of your dialup costs with a flat fee per month.
Speed sucked a bit – they obviously didnt count on the number of people signing up (rumoured about 10,000 on day one), but as of today it is again pretty snappy.
I maintain my stand (earlier stated in Jace’s journal, that BSNL is by far the most reliable and service conscious provider in the country. Their DIAS service rocks as well, and their GSM services have all but demolished the greedy private service providers’ margins – much to the benefit of the consumers.
BSNL *rocks*!
Sure does, but RIM is catching up!
BSNL sure does rock, GSM, landlines et al, but Reliance India Mobile is catching up, and fast! Where GSM is concerned, Hutch takes the prize, IMHO. Customer service is top class – and that matters!
I got my about RIM two weeks back, and my net life is back to normal… 🙂 I can do all my internet work from my hostel room at 40 paise/minute, working out to Rs. 24 an hour. It’s worth it (in my case) because – (a) I pay 20 bucks an hour in the college cyber cafe and (2) wireless access at about 10KB/sec – that’s faster than my ‘cable’ connexion back home!
As the battle of the telephone giants gets bigger, it’s the customer who’s winning…
Get your math right….
10ps/min = Rs6/hr which is Re1 more than the Rs5/hr your be paying if you picked up an 100hr account from BSNL(Sancharnet.in) (And this includes free night-time access.)
And the cheapest ISP in town is not BSNL by a far shot.
Pacific Internet 1month unlimited for Rs.200/- is the cheapest currently.
Hurry or someone might register your phone no!
Hi Kalyan,
That was useful. Just one hitch, it is easy to register other unregistered phone numbers also and give it a password you want 😉 You cannot *use* their phone for your browsing though.

Re: Hurry or someone might register your phone no!
hehe I know, but it should be easy to reset a password to a new once, because you can always prove your number by caller ID, though I can smell frauds coming, when many people share a phoneline like a work space or something.
Re: Get your math right….
I did not say it was the cheapest, but its very easy to register and setup and its postpaid 🙂
Re: Sure does, but RIM is catching up!
