Back on Linux
Finally got around to install Red Hat 8 on my home machine over the weekend.
All I can say is it Rulez. The new UI is simple amazing, ( ofcourse I got bored with it soon and shifted back to WM). I find some of the old tools missing. But heck. The new UI is a cross breed between WinXP and Mac OSX. They got all the blue from from Mac. The highlight of the whole install was my dad shifting to linux. He never liked linux , and always would boot to windows. ( He mostly works with MS work/ppt etc ). I set up and account for him on the box and configured evolution and set up some icons for him to use. Believe it or not, he has not booted into windows since then. He likes evolution, the new UI and rest of the works. He still is having tough time getting used to openoffice. But the part that he really likes is , when he clicks on a word doc on the net, and mozilla automatically opens up Openoffice to display the file. ( This emulates the IE and MS office tie up).
Overall I like RH8. Its the right OS for people who are looking for the switch from windows to linux. But they are also making everything look and work like windows. ( that is something that annoyes me).
