Men in the U.S. who drink alcohol receive about 7% higher wages than do abstainers, according to data from the national Household Survey on Drug Abuse (United States Department of Health and Human Services). Women who drink receive about three and one-half percent higher wages than do abstainers.

    Considering that men/women who drink spend a *considerable* part of their paycheck on booze, how does that equation work out?

    Assuming that (like you) someone spends about 20-25% of his income on tequila, it means that he actually has 13-18% *less* spending capability. And this does not, of course, take into account the cost of wooing a new girlfriend (since the old ones leave you regularly for being a drunken sod ;-), asprin for hangovers, etc….

    Man, I wonder who actually came up with those statistics. I mean, if you can actually get a PhD by coming up with a conclusion that men who drink get 7% more incoming rupees than men who don’t, it proves……

    that there is hope in academics for me after all 😉
