Lots of Clouds, but no Goats
As Sandesh puts it, We are in the land of the cloud goats. Lots of clouds but no goats.
We really did not get the huge groups that we were hoping to get. We did manage to get a small group and the males were getting excited smelling the females urine, but that’s about it. Sometime now they gather in huge groups and then the fights break out between the males etc. We suspect we are early for this event (maybe because of delayed monsoons).
Anyway we decided to move on and landed back in Valparai now. We have messengers there in Munnar, who will call us the min these huge groups gather. Let’s see what Valparai holds in the next few days.
Also I finally have a decent set of Rain coat, rain pants and rain boots. So I can almost stay out in the field in heavy rain all day and not get wet or get bothered by leeches. 🙂
Where did you manage the rain gear?
Overshoes are from the US, pants are from UK and the jacket is from brigade road 🙂
Is there any other country you want to get stuff off?
I really wish we could raid http://www.campmor.com. they have amazing gear for our use in western ghats.
I want to raid any shop that has northface
I am not sure if any of the Bangalore shops have ~original~ Northface stuff. But there are plenty and plenty of them here and every alternate guy here has atleast 2 NF gear with him and one of them being a winter jacket 😉

I am sooo glad this is goats we’re talking about and not humans.
:))) I couldn’t help laughing! The blend of local and global items :))
Life-work balance
I often wonder on reading your blogs how you manage to keep the life-work balance while most people struggle with the reverse 🙂
So how do you manage to get away for weeks at end from your regular job (still computers I suppose)? Or do you operate by working part of the year?
oh! somebody got your goat?
Re: Life-work balance
Err… guess i have not made a formal announcement on this one.. I’m into wildlife full time now. This is part of it, which is wildlife film making.. and this project is with the BBC.
Re: Life-work balance

Cool trip
Kalyan,
Thanks for sharing your bird watching trip. I’m from a rural area in Lake County, California. People from all over the world come to Lake County to go bird watching. Check it out: http://www.lakecounty.com/things/birding.html There are virtually hundreds of different types of birds you can see with relative ease. There are Great Blue Harons, Belted Kingfishers, all types of Crows, Olive-sided Flycatcher and of course, the California Quail. Take Care, Lane

But I’m not one to roll over and die, so I packed my car full of firewood from the hostel and recruited a fun French couple to come down to a different beach.
I couldn’t help laughing as RyanAir announced just now that another flight will have “an on-time departure”.
Anyway, we’re not talking about Bilbys, we’re talking about The Troll and he is only small and he looked.
