Monkey Incident

Got back yesterday from a short weekend trip to BR hills and things sure are changing over there. Remember the monkey that always greets me by jumping on my shoulder as soon as I go there ? This time it did the same as usual. However, a funny incident happened.

I usually feed bread crumbs or pieces of banana to these monkeys. This chap was very pissed that I was giving him small piece by piece and not the whole thing at once. So he holds my hair and pulls it. After giving him a small bit, he was not happy again. So he looks at me and gives a threat display (which is basically monkey’s version of growl) and hits my head. He did this couple of times and then he jumped off.

I guess the young one is growing up and the alpha-male-dominated society’ss male-aggression is kicking in. Next time I have to be careful 🙂

When I was in study in Bombay – for an entire semester I had a small monkey come into my room and routinely raid my belongings. I went away for one month. I came back to find CMani the Monkey a straddling male who insisted on thwacking me, and threatening to throw out the laptop. Our relationship ended when one day he decided to sit on me when I was sleeping. I thought it was somebody else (don’t ask) and slapped him.

    i hate monkies

In Bombay once…we went on this school picnic trip to the zoo. Unfortunately the ONLY incident from the trip that I remember is painful and deviously connected to a caged monkey.

So we were all running around wearing blue-gray shorrrt pinoforms playing hide-n-seek. I hid behind the monkey cage (No…don’t ask me why). The person that kept den slowly sought every hiding soul except mine. When she found me…I had a large part of my scalp bare. This monkey had reached for a fistful of my hair.

You should be more careful the next time.

Yes, you need to be careful when you go there next time !

I Mother too had this experience. She used to feed the monkeys with some food everyday in Chamarajpet. Then these monkeys got used to it. And whenever she seasoned the sambar the aroma went out of the kitchen window and these monkeys made their demand for food. Later it became a nightmare to get rid of 7-8 monkeys.
