POTD sounds like a neat idea.
I suggest a separate photoblog on your site, with an RSS feed. That would drive more traffic to your site, and on LJ people could just subscribe to that as well (if someone adds the feed).

Executive summary: (Initially) I’d prefer an overlap.
So why not have some thing like S9Y running for the photo thing on your site which will cross post to your LJ as well, using the LJ plugin ! So you can provide a seperate RSS feed + have it on your LJ. Mebbe you can change this to a feed only some time later (depending upon the response).

Put a POTD at a place where you can actually get site stats and all that. LJ doesn’t give you squat. You already have your domain. Put it there and have a feed.

I wish. and I want RSS feeds for ‘friends page’ too.
Be warned that you’ll crave the feedback loop once you leave LJ. And LJ or not, I’m not sure the POTD enthusiasm will last more than a few months. Better to focus your energies.
Yeah. I too wish RSS feeds existed for friends. You can use the OPML file generated using this and read the top level folder on your aggregator. Yeah, it can’t track modification to friends list and all. Basically it is an easy way of adding LJ friends to your aggregator.
I know I know.. thats the only thing that has been holding me back for many years now 🙂

I agree with jace… I have had a photoblog since almost 2 years now… the feed back frequency keeps changing and have dropped significantly, especially after mediums like flickr… But recently it seems to be going up (a little) again 😛
I do it for its a space where I also write what I feel at times and it also plays as a record of things that I can use for my own reference 😛
If u decide to do it… as everyone is urging – putting it on your domain with a feed is the best way to go.
I still plan to have this blog as an active photo/general/tech blog.. and will post trip reports etc.. its just that.. my posting fequency has gone down and I dont want to flood my blog with pics everyday

Huh? Why should the feedback die? If the feed is syndicated on LJ, people can continue commenting as much as they want. They certainly do on posts of mine that appear here through syndication.

the elephant is uber cute. is she a baby elephant? i wish we have some elephants down here in the philippines. we have pretty wildbirds tho. and lots of fishes. and i liked your photoblog. youre starting to sound like an episode from animal planet now. 😛
