Introducing WildIndia
Remember the wildlife related project I was talking about ? Well here you go.
Introducing WildIndia, a community site for people interested in Indian wildlife, ornithologists, wildlife photographers and ofcourse for everyone else. Noel and me have been working on this for a while now, but only recently this has taken off in a big way. The aim is to use the power of the Internet and current day technology tools to enable people to collect, share and analyze our Biodiversity data in an easy way.
I also wrote my first ajax script using google maps to show bird distribution in India. People have been contributing in a big way to the wiki already, for example, check out this nice piece on BR hills. Getting tons of mail from people all around the world, who want to share their data, contribute content etc. So lookout for more stuff soon.
I do not have enough time to work on this because of my current job. I spend whatever time I get on weekends, but its fun coz I get to code again after a long time 🙂
How does one add bird sighting data? I want to add for several birds like European Roller, Crested Goshawk, all the bitterns etc etc….
Coming soon. Noel is working on that right now. Should take another week or two. Hopefully plan to have a dashboard like interface for every user.
Btw mind if I add you to the wildindia planet page ?
Really a very nice initiative. Like the whole idea. You should expect such a response as more and more people would like to be a part of this. Keep up the good work.
Regarding the site, the layout is simple and good. Logo terrific. I am still reading the facts that appear below, waiting for it to get refreshed 🙂
nice stuff:))keep it going…
>mind if I add you to the wildindia planet page ?
I presume you are referring to adding my LJ feed – Sure go ahead, I do hope the occasional contents do not embrass you/your visitors
BTW added http://www.wildindia.org/wiki/Bird_hotspots_in_Nagpur%2C_Maharashtra to the wiki – will keep expanding as time permits.
Meanwhile for any help needed with PHP – just buzz
Good effort Kalyan.. Awesome stuff !!
good work 🙂 you just rock 🙂 enjoy maadi
Simply awesome ‘Kalyan’, as suggested in one of the replies, it would be great to have an interface to input sighting data.
By the way, in what manner was the present list generated, I mean was it taken by eminent naturalists or some wildlife groups/activists?
It was collected by this person named Shymal. He has been collecting all there records from journals, mailing lists etc and has been putting it in an excel sheet. He even developed a nice windows program which did the same thing on a india map.
Congrtulations to all you nice folks who made this website possible. I am not an IT person myself, but if you need any help – please feel free to get in touch with me.
Cool!
Managed to have a first look at it. Havent gone through it entirely. Very nice idea, and certainly a very useful one.
