Posting pictures ?

I have *loads* of pictures which I’ve shot over the past couple of months and most of these are really really good ones. I’ve always wanted to post them here, but somehow was too lazy or had limited access to the net. Now I want to post all those pics online one by one, but I’m not sure if people are really fine with that. I mean many people still live in the dial-up world and I, for one find it really tough to load all my friends blogs when I connect from my blog.

So I could either post them all here or start another blog or RSS feed from my site and post the pics there. Which way would you folks like it ?

Please post to kalyan_photos or some such. Note that it is easier if it is a community (that way, you can stay logged in as user ‘kalyan’ and post there, and interested folk track the community) while if you create an lj user of that name, each time you want to make a post, you’re gonna have to logout and re-login. It’s a massive PITA, really.

Bring ’em on Kallu Bhai. I vote for an RSS feed, I’ve got abundant bandwidth tho.

Ignorant me 🙁 but what is a RSS feed? I can view them on here as i have good bandwidth, but empathise with those who still on dial up.

Anywhere but here 🙂 Nothing against your pics but try and keep your pics away from your mainstream blog. That way, your work life and other life are in two different streams

Heh, but these days, that is my work 😉

Posting to flickr seems like a good idea. Then we get a ready made rss feed. Viewers can also add comments to individual photos.

Exactly what I meant when I said keep your work life and other life in different streams

  9. noelladsa · April 27, 2005

Haha no the work life is his only life 🙂

Flickr’s use of Flash is annoying. I find it extremely painful to view pictures at Flickr. Don’t use it.

  11. admin · April 27, 2005

Exactly the reason why I don;t want to use it to. Also I rather have my own look and feel then the yahoo/flickr look.

But that only works in Firefox, which also sucks. I’m not making Firefox my primary browser until they fix their UI.

Anyway’s fine. Just put ’em up! 😉

  14. swaroopch · April 27, 2005

Out of curiosity, which browser _do_ you use? 🙂

  15. jace · April 27, 2005

    Apple Safari

  16. anomalizer · April 27, 2005

Ofcourse, I dont ever expect you of all ppl to say Kallu has time for other things besides work 😛

  17. noelladsa · April 27, 2005

why :-/ whats wrong with the UI specifically ?

  18. rohandsa · April 27, 2005

I hate Flickr for the same reason!

Another LJ or LJ community devoted to your photo posts. No flickr please.

The Mac version is full of niggling UI issues. For example, if you double click on a word in Firefox, it selects it. If you continue dragging, it continues selecting. But in Mac Firefox, if you pause after the double click (hold down but don’t move), it pops up a menu and you can no longer select. This is an old Mac OS 9 behaviour that was dropped in OSX when support for multi-button mice was added. Firefox is the only browser that does this, and its god-darned annoying.

This is just one. There are tens of other minor issues that give me the jitters. The Firefox roadmap says version 1.1 will fix these issues (“ongoing HIG compliance”). I remember reading somewhere else that Mac UI is high priority for 1.1. I’m looking forward to it.

Serves you right for using a Mac. :p

FWIW, Apple Safari kicks ass. Beats any browser on any platform.
