Regarding the photography assignment

Since so many people have left so many comments on my last post, I thought, I’d make a separate post about it.

Yes, currently I’m on a sabbatical from work and 8 months will go in a jiffy and I will have loads of fun. But it’s easier said then done. Right now I have my hands in just way too many things, and this assignment will mean I will have to leave everything and go. That will include my consulting work / naturalist position / wildlife photography etc and these are the areas in which I am just starting out on. I rather enjoy what I’m doing now fully and think about alternatives when this becomes a drag ot if I have to give this up. Besides on the outside the job description sounds amazing, but I’m sure I will have to slog my butt off in those 8 months.

If this was given to you, would you really quit eveything you are doing now and go off for 8 months ? I think not. 🙂

True! The grass is always greener on the other side.

    Yes! Yes! lol

Probably it depends on what you want to do with photography. If you want to end up taking photoshoots to lovely babes, then grab this offer. Instead, for a naturalist or a wildlife photographer, then may be letting it go is better. But, think about this, would you be still be able to continue with this wildlife thing in Miami ? or try out something else which appeals to your senses ?

Two words: Miami and models. Did i mention that i offered my service as an assistant on pro bono terms?

Do you really want to go ? I can recommend your name.

    I guess I wouldn’t have ! But, I’d like to imagine that I would have 😉

If I take this up, this will almost be end of my wildlife stuff. I do not think the folks here will take me back if I just quit today and shot up after almost a year. They need to get some returns out of me as well.

    heh, Exactly my point. 🙂

Its easy to ask someone else to just take it up. But you put youself there and you will realise that there is more to it then just 8 month vacation

    Heh

You, jace, Khader and Sriram are the only people I can think off, who can do this kinda job. But I am sure none of you folks will really take it 😉

    ‘wild’-life in miami 😉
indeed a dicey situation… but i think its a good (slightly diverse) experience, which would definitely do good for ur (general) photography career… i mean how long can u photograph animals !!?? give urself a break man 😀 just 8 months…
then again, no great advice here… a bird in hand is worth two in a bush !

    Honest Advice

Dont take this up. You have no idea what is in store for you on these cruises especially if it is one of those desi cruises and secondly if someone tries to convince you in terms of the models you will be shooting, it is just a bunch of crap, all the so called models are stars on soaps on Zee TV, Sony etc. I am not a very active commenter on your blog but i am an active reader, I have tried to follow your career graph for close to a year now..and i think what you are doing now is great, from your gokarting days with colleagues at yahoo to your fundraising campaign post your carjacking to wildlife photography. You seem to be an out of the box person dont fall for modeling assignments and miami, it is all a bunch of crap. If you do change your mind and decide to do some modeling assignments is there a place better than Bangalore to start :).

heh I’m sure you’ll be relieved for the break 😀

    Re: Honest Advice

From what I understand, the offer was not from an Indian agency at all, and was arranged through someone Kalyan knows and respects, so the chances of this being a “desi cruise” are remote.

However, it is a fact that this definitely would not have been a holiday – it would have been hard work.

Kallu is currently experiencing what he would probably call “the time of his life” – it will take a lot more than an offer of hard work, away from things he loves (Bangalore and wildcats, among other things), to make him give up what he is doing right now. 🙂

    Another Honest Advice

    Hey Kallu,

I think you should take it up, not because its ‘miami and the models’ but becoz its something new and unexplored…And I know you are having a time of your life, more reason for u to quit and do something different.

And there is nuthing like the end of ur wild life photography if u leave. If u really wish to do it you can always do it not matter what.

Apart from that the only consideration you should have is the accountability you have to your workplace.

You’ll always do well in your life so just go out and chillax and the rest shall follow 🙂

But I just started doing that now.. and I am yet to scratch the surface of it 🙂 and I do not intent to leave it so early.

It’s not a desi assignment but yeah, I agree with most of what you said.. 🙂

I just started taking a break from my tech world, and I just cannot drop what I’m doing so fast 🙂

But yeah, I am not ruling this out either.. maybe sometime in my life
