Bruce Schneier’s blog

One of the best security/crypto technologist of our times, Bruce Schneier has started his own blog. I never liked Schneier’s writing when I went through his first book Applied Cryptography. It’s one of those really boring ‘text book’ kinda book. But recently he has changed his writing style and I love his new stuff. His recent book Practical Cryptography is one of the finest crypto/security books out there. I loved the book so much, I even went and bought the hardcover version of it. I highly recommend the book, even though you are not into crypto.

Have to respectfully disagree with you.
Applied Crypto. deals with the guts and gore of crypto; it delves into algorithms, C source code, random number generators and key exchange protocols, to name a few. Practical Crypto. is a coffee table book that gives you an overview of crypto., and some of its implementation issues.
Practical Crypto. is for the management/exec. types; Applied Crypto. is for the developer/techie who wants to get dirty with unserstanding and learning crypto.

On a separate, unrelated note, got your 5GB CF HDD. (broke apart the music player).

Schneier ? hmmm , I remember me being pointed to the Applied crypto book by one of my friends in third semester. And I am thinking all about security after reading some 10 pages in it :P. But I found it a bit complicated for my level . How do you classify the second book practical cryptography ? begginner ? intermediate ? advanced ? tell me anna 😉

    Disagree.

Applied Crypto if a reference book. You really will not understand the workings of an also by that book. If you are implementing an algo.. then this book will be really useful.

But if want to understand crypto from groundups then practical crypto it is. It goes very deep. Let me give you my copy and then you will see the diff 😉
