Fundraiser Works

Thanks to the generious donations from people, I managed to raise around $120 for the camera fundraiser. I put in rest of the money and bought the Nikon F80 again. I should have posted this couple of days ago, but its never too late for anything.

    Shame! Shame! Shame!

You are a shameless person. You have no shame or soul.
You begged to compensate for your personal stupidity and
take advantage of mindless donors. I am truly blown
away that you have the balls to BEG for your worthless
pleasure when you live in a place where you can see thousands of
hungry and sick children every day. If you have any soul left you
should donote all the money from begging you got plus something to the care and feeding of these needy children.

I have seen your pictures and they
are just crap. I am surprised your parents didn’t
drill any sense into your bonehead.

I am also amazed at the ‘bangalore’ community. They didn’t
put you in place for this horrific and thoughtless act.
It seems they are more interested in banning some one for
some yap yap. They all sould have ‘lj’ meet and vomit
    on your camera!

You make me sick. I hope all the hungry children
place a dark curse on your camera and you for a
    thoughtless act.

    Shame! Shame Shame!

He didnt beg for cash. Those who helped him did it on their own. Moreover the community is more like a family. Why r u so jealous that he got cash?? If u dont have helpful ppl in ur life, its ur problem.

U sound more like someone who didnt have the ballz to take criticism and puked out in between from the community.

and what the hell is the problem with mr. varma why does he have to quote the amount that he raised (or whatever) in dollars instead of rupees (this is just an observation) dont give crap relies saying that it was quoted in dollars bec ppl from diff parts of the world read it and they wouldnt be knowing the value of a rupee… only ur circle of friends and (very few) ppl like me who bumped into ur journal read ur journal and nobody else does

Simple reason buddy : Paypal does everything in dollars, people donated in dollars ( even if they are from india ) and as you said yourself a lot of people do not understand rupees.

Its so tough to understand that ? 😉

Hey! That rant sounds so familiar! Now where have I seen this style before? 🙂

Ahh, somewhere in a flame thread about the BLUG “charging” 100 bucks for food at meets (a decision taken by the members)? Yes, very similar style. 🙂 And same rationale.

Hahahaha! Your post was good entertainment..I think for Kalyan and the rest of us here :).
SHAME ON YOU ! For wasting time posting on lj and providing entertainment to people when you could go help some hungry children.
And while you are at it maybe they will educate you on how not to get rude with people , specially resorting to cheap personal insults.
Even if your argument did have a morsel of sense …it would have gotten diluted at the personal insults you are throwing around here
..SHAME! SHAME! Chee! Chee! I hope all the hungry children curse you back for wasting time posting on lj
PS You really sound jealous man!

    Re: Shame! Shame! Shame!

    Dude:

Kallu is one of my closest friends. When I (or any of his friends) buy him something for his birthday, or just because he is down and needs some encouragement, then we don’t do it because we think he can’t afford the CD, or the shirt, or the new shoelaces that we bought him.

We do it to show him that we care, and to cheer him up.

Does it matter whether we do it by *buying* him a camera, or giving him *cash* so that he can buy it himself? The $120 he got as gifts from his friends is approximately a third of what the camera costs – that means that the money he got was something that pushed him over the edge into buying a new one, and made him feel good about it.

These days, when a young person gets married, we invariably pool together and give him/her cash as a wedding gift, because no one knows better than them what they need. This is something that has been going on for decades, maybe centuries. The couples sometimes even request gifts in cash or blessings – this avoids duplicates, or unusable stuff, and the people giving the gifts are happy because they know that their gift is something of greatest possible use to their friend.

This is exactly the same thing – but isn’t something you thought of, primarily because you didn’t *think*.

This has nothing to do with the Bangalore community that you appear to have been kicked out of (and I can see why).

It’s *our* friend, it’s *our* decision, it’s *our* feelings and *our* money. And this is his private journal, and when he posts something here, it is meant for those people he considers his friends.

And now for a rant (the above does not qualify as one):

People like you make me sick. Just read the crap you have written – it is utter nonsense. You dont come across as someone who would give a hungry child food if you came across one – you sound like someone who’d hold his nose, kick it in the face, and shoo it away.

When someone like you stands up and pompously assumes the mantle of a judge, one thing that comes across is that you don’t have all the facts in front of you – you spout your perceived “wisdom” like it was handed to you by God, never once thinking about the fact that the *actual* people involved (in this case *us* – people who actually know Kallu) have completely different perceptions of the situation.

Did you actually *ask* anyone how they felt about this request by Kallu? No, clearly you have not. This is the reason why you posted anonymously, just like all those guys who criticize others from behind the safety net of closed mailing lists or private email, or hushed whispers.

Why don’t you show your face? Why don’t you let us see who you are?

Are you his father? If so, then your words should be respected. Are you a friend of his? Then Kallu should listen to you and consider what you are saying.

Words of wisdom are those that are spoken by wise men. Clearly, the person saying those words is part of the equation – and that gives anonymous (or hidden) people like you no rights to respect or tolerance AT ALL!

So who are you? Who died and appointed you judge, jury and executioner?

You are a nobody, a nothing. You are a coward, a low-life cheap-thrills seeker, a lost soul who is probably bored out of his empty skull. Your only form of entertainment is commenting on things you don’t understand, or hurt people you don’t even know.

You are pathetic, the lowest form of organism, whose IQ clearly is lower than the temperature of the room you are sitting in, or the temperature of what you wet your bed with at night.

I hope that Kallu comes to his senses and, like many other people, makes his journal friends-only, and disallows anonymous postings, so that only people he considers his friends can get to see what he writes.

You clearly do not qualify. Obviously, you have no idea at all what a friend is.

    2. do not have the guts to post non-anonymously
    3. talk about Kalyan asking the Bangalore LJ community when nothing of the sort happened

    So, go boil your head.

  26. achitnis · September 24, 2004 Reply

    > Well, that I can tell! 🙂

Actually, you can’t. If you thought you did, you were wrong.

I clearly couldn’t have written up that piece so quickly without spending half a day on it, and I admit I didn’t.

I originally wrote most of it on a Saturday after Kallu first put out his donation post a month ago, when the (possibly same) moron had posted similar comments.

I later chose not to post it since I couldn’t find Kallu anywhere to ask him whether he would mind my putting up a rant, and by the time I did, the “moment had passed”.

When it happened this time, I found Kallu online, asked him, he was ok with it (and no, I didn’t show it to him), I resurrected the text, brought it up to date, and posted it. Not so surprisingly, a month after I wrote it I still felt *exactly* the same way.

Here’s the actual chat between me and Kallu:

(16:05:14) Atul: I want to let loose a rant against anonymous judges in your journal
    (16:05:26) Kalyan: cool
    (16:09:54) Atul: done

As you can see – total time spent was about 4 minutes. I was actually on a coffee break at that time.

If your comment meant to say that I have way too much time on my hands, then you were wrong – given the number of things I am involved in, I have *very* little time to waste.

So why am I “wasting” my “copious free time” now explaining this to you?

    Two reasons:

    1. I just came back from a fabulous Biryani Merchant dinner, and am in a happy mood.
    2. It’s 12:29 in the night, and this time is my own.

    Somewhat OT to the discussion…

I see that you own a D70 in addition to the F80. How do you use the two bodies? I mean, do you exclusively shoot slides with your F80? You are one of the few folks I know that own high-end amateur film *and* digital bodies. Just wondering.

  31. admin · September 27, 2004 Reply

Yeah. I have 2 bodies and 3 lenses. So far I have been only shooting slides.. I use my D70 as the primary camera. whenever I have some time ot work on a picture ( as in when I can spend a min or two at a place to take pic ), I use the F80. Sometimes it gets annoying to carry both the cameras, but basically whenever I travel, I carry both.
