First Pictures from the D70

The lighting was just right yesterday afternoon.. and I dragged my sister to the window and took these pics.. The contrast & color’s of D70 are almost as good as Canon’s.

I miss the live LCD display from my old camera. I cannot view the pic in the LCD, till I actually take the picture.

You’ll look really similar… unlike my sister and me.

Yeah. I just saw the pic first (not the post) & thought Kalyan used some cool image editing tool to create a feminine clone lol

    FX?

How did you get that effect ? ( the lighting effect in the first and second photos ), was it a digital mod ?. Were they taken at the same spot?.

You do alike in the first, but not really in the second. Your jaw is more prominent.

Re: DigiCam help for a newbie !!

When going for a budget camera.. digital zoom sucks!.. go for one with the most optical zoom.

Remember… you also need to invest in rechargeable batteries(and recharger) and SD/MMC Card(and a card reader!) so it’ll will set you back another few thousands.

I plan to get a Kodak DX6340 the moment I find some money left over at the end of the month.

I almost picked up the CX6200/CX6230 last December… in fact went around ready to pick up a digicam for ~10k…. but all dealers here were charging around Rs.1000 more than the rates quoted on http://jjmehta.com. but once i factored in the cost of the batteries/mmc card/charger/reader .. it was going to cost me 14-15k.

You can get the DX6340(which is way better) with batteries/charger/mmc-card+reader etc for around the same cost in the US.(ofcourse you also need someone to bring it down for you.)

    Re: FX?

I took the pictures at 2 in the afternoon.. the lighting through the opaque window was just right. I took the pics about 20 min apart.. exactly at the same spot.

I did not add any digital effects to the picture. Thats how they came out of the cam ( the camera rocks I tell ya ;))

Keep off the Kodak CX series. They have no controls except exposure compensation and the picture quality is rather poor.

    How about Sony CyberShot series?

Try putting your and her photo thru a photo morphing software – have the keypoints as eyebrows, nose, ears, chin – take a look at one of the mid frames 🙂

    Canon Rebel V/s D70

    hey,
was wondering if you considered buying the canon digital rebel and if you did, then why you chose the D70 over the canon dig. rebel ??

this is just out of curiosity bcos i own a canon dig. rebel and in my case it was the cost that prevented me from buying the D70.
    cheers.

    Re: Canon Rebel V/s D70

Good question. Infact I was debating between 300D and my Coolpix 5700 last year. I decided to go for the 5700 coz I was not ready for a DSLR yet… infact 5700 is the cam I used to learn everything about photography that I know so far. My previous cam was a point and shoot.

So this time my options were Nikon D70, Canon 300d and Canon 10D.

10D was too pricy for me. D70 fits somewhere in the middle in terms of both cost and perfomance.. I like the out-of-the-box canon pics.. but I play a lot with the gimp.. so I decided to go for nikon coz I usually do some kind of touchup’s later to the pic.

Also almost all my friends belong to nikon family.. so it will be easy for me to work, share notes, share lens etc..

But yeah.. 300D kicks ass. Are you from bangalore ? If you are, then I would love to come and check out the camera one of these days…

Ahh .. always is good when u have a network u can share ur work and opinions with. Good luck with the Nikon.

The 300D surely does kick ass … however, it does underexpose with the flash sometimes and the Automatic mode aint all that clever ;-P

and there is always Gimp to play around with .. though I have not put any of the pics I took so far thru any software ..

And yeah .. I am from Bangalore, but currently in Canada .. dunno if u remember me .. Shashi from PES .. Nandu and Sush’s classmate. Will come down in December .. shall surely make it a point to exchange camera notes then 😉

Was looking at some of the pictures u took .. was amazed by them. great work…cant wait to see what u can do with the SLR.
in the meantime .. here’s some of my work .. http://individual.utoronto.ca/stpalli/sb.htm

    Re: Canon Rebel V/s D70

Ofcourse I remember you 🙂 ( you sounded like a total stranger )

Looking forward for the visit.. I havent played with a 300D yet.. so I can have the honors with your cam 😉

The pictures look amazing.. looks like canon does very good long exposure and low light images well.. atleast far better then nikon. The snow pics look a bit underexposed as you said.. but it has a nice smooth feel to it. I like the road pic with cars…. I wish I can get that effect by my cam.

Anyway good to hear you have the 300D. Do ping me when you get down here in december

Get the Minolta Dimage series.. They’re cheap. They have 4MP ones for $200. They use CF cards, which are really much cheaper than the Memory Sticks or xD cards for Sony and Fuji/etc. They have a good set of features. They work.

    Nikhil.

I have a Sony Cybershot. I would say “NO”. Although it gives almost all controls you look for, it is a slow camera. At high resolutions, the camera sucks and sucks battery like crazy. It looks sleek and thats it. Go for Canon or Minolta.
