Indian elections : BJP Government

Remember kids.. Its time to vote tomorrow and BJP seems to be everyone’s fav party. I ask you all to look back a little and then decide.

India Shining : Well we all know its was an amazing marketing campaign. But lets face it, BJP has done nothing. It was at the right place at the right time. Thats all.
Pakistan : We had a major battle with them, we were at the brink of a major war and just before the elections things seem to be all goodie. Nice no ?
Genocide : Don’t forget the horrible killings in gujarat 2 years ago and how the BJP gov had aided in the genocide that happened. ( The person who led the genocide is still the CM of gujarat ). Read this article for more info.
Hindutva : BJP is the party that publicly supports Hindutva. Do you want a racist gov to rule your county ? Do you want them to cleanse non-hindu communities ? Also read fus‘s take here and here

Remember the future of India is in your hands 😉

Btw while driving to work I noticed this billboard and when I opened today’s paper, I notice this. The first one according to the board is a “A public awareness message by jan jagruti”, a NGO. The second one is a BJP ad. ( The ad refers to this congress campaign)

Judge for yourselves.. fucking jan jagruti is BJP. And looks like no one knows what they do
either.

is there an alternative? it does seem like BJP is the best of the worst lot, or should we get the Italian mob boss? aka sonia gandhi? and make India as good as Italy, if not Singapore. Politics and elections are such that you dont seek perfection, rather you go for the optimal one, and often times, the optimal one may not be the best.
    Ramu Gowda

Ummm, do you realise that you just made a great case for the Congress in Karnataka? They may not be the best, but they sure are optimal going by what they *have* achieved in Karnataka (read – Bangalore), and by what they have *not* done.

    Politics (and sendmail) suck.

    Kallu for Prasident! 🙂

Kalyan, I have been following ur blog for a some time now. This maybe ur first political statement, I guess.

Ok, just treat this as a discussion and nothing else.

I dont say whatever happened is good. I agree Gujarat was a blot on India. Then what was Godhra?

U call BJP racist, what r the other parties. Who always talks abt minorities but does nothing. Everytime something happens to minorities, we have all the so called fscked secular parties, shouting thier ass apart, but when lakhs of Kashmiri pandits are refugees in their own country, why doesnt anyone talk. Is secular means muslims and christians, but not Hindus. There r thousands of Gujarats happeninig everyday in India, even on other communities, why isnt that talked abt?

Also, the main cause for all this has been the negligence of the Cong. govt. towards the minorities. Had they provided them with the facilities for 50 odd years, things would be different. U say, BJP is the worng party at the right time, whats arong with it. Whats wrong in promoting Hindutva. All religions are promoted in India., so why not Hindutva.

Would luv to continue the discussion…

    Kallu a few things..

BJP has been extremist at times…but tell me..what did congress do in delhi in 1984 when Indira Gandhi was assasinated..Sikhs were killed indiscriminately … The Army had to be called in near the place i used to stay before the riots could be quelled down…

in 50 yrs india;s per capita income has grown to grand total of 400$ ..In South East Asian countries which were way way poorer than us..the per capita income has grown to 13000$ a month? What was congress doing for 50 years??

BJP may have been at the right time in the IT boom..but are you telling me in the last 50 yrs there has not been any kind of booms which india could not have taken advantage of?

I would say as long as the extremists in BJP are kept in check it is doing a better job than congress..I surely don’t want a leader like Sonia Gandhi for prime minister…

In fact, Its high time congress looks to alternate leaders..somebody not from Gandhi family…they still hold on to the gandhi family as if they can’t produce a leader …

And Kargil you forget we were not the aggressors..yes BJP should have heeded the intelligence reports( if there were any ) but it was not BJP who started the war.

Gujrat was a tragedy….i agree and modi may have had something to do with it..but since he is still CM doesn’t it show somethng…that the people actually elected him again? Why?

That in my opinion is the good/bad of democracy..you get leaders as competent as the population..if the population is largely an idiot then you will get idiotic leaders…The only way out of this rut..is to make more and more people literate educated..etc.. Education is our way out of this mess

Hmm, perhaps Vijay Mallaya as a CM would keep this city open later into the night.

You forgot to list the blatant attempt to woo voters with the mini budget sops 2 months before they announced the elections.

I do agreee with all of what you said and would have voted for the INC [1]. But I also feel Sonia G. is not fit to be the PM not because she’s a foreigner or anything of that sort but solely because she is utterly incapable of being one.

[1] I just found out that my f***ing name is absent from the f***ing voters list.

yes i do not know why they are scared to project their younger face completely. if they had done that, the bjp would have had a real scare on its hands now. it was bad management. i hope they learn by the next time around. and the euphoria i am thinking will set the bjp on a delirious streak of the people supporting a saffron agenda, and they will screw themselves. let us see.

but anybody other than the congress for karnataka is disaster for karnataka

Will come up with the achievements of govt. of Karnataka in the past 5 yrs. ver soon:)

  14. rythm · April 20, 2004 Reply

    Cong Govt…

Here are a few major achievements of the Cong. govt in Karnataka.

    1) Industrial Development:

10 years back Karnataka had a very high number of industries.
Almost all of them were into profits. But, we have the same industrial
minister despite having 2 different govts. He ensured that atleast a
dozen industries were labeled as running into losses. The major
production units were closed, but the management were retained.
Now, can u run a factory which has no production, but only expenses.
Now half a dozen of these have been closed, rendering around 20000
employees jobless and their dependent families on the roads.

Can u think that Mysore Paints which produces the ink which is used
in Elections was also told to be loss making. Luckily they managed some
    orders and are still running.
The main reason being, the politicians want the large land pieces
associated with the factories, which will be sold by the kith and kin
    of the politicos.

    2) Agriculture:

This is the backbone of our country. I agree 3 years of continuous
drought is bad. But, what did the govt do to tackle it. Wait for the
farmers to commit suicide and then give money to their family.

Wouldnt it be better to give them money when they r alive.

    3) IT & Infrastructure:

If u say that the BJP is the wrong party at the right time, then its the
same with Cong. Now, Bangalore is world famous as an info hub.
But, it lacks wrt infrastructure. Mr. Azim Premji had to come out in
public for the govt to improve the roads near Sarjapur main road.

Also, the work on almost all major works is beyond schedule by a couple
of years. The flyover at BTM Checkpost had to be completed by Oct last
year, but is still in the initial stages now.

The mini Vidhana Soudha was inaugurated even before it was 75% complete
coz the govt wanted to take the credit.

    4) Corruption:

This is the most fascinating one. I firmly believe all parties make
money. But the efficiency with which the Cong does it beats all others
    in the race.

5 years back, when the JD govt was in Karnataka, the normal rates for
the dept. jobs like sub-inspector were around 2-3 lakhs for merit guys.
Now its 8-10 lakhs. U may think all these things dont happen, but they do.

Give them power once again and they will just improve on that.

I am not just writing a story. I have seen all these things happening
around me. This is what has happened at the centre for 50 yrs. at a
    larger scale.

Maybe India is not yet ready for Democratisim! 😉

I think people are turning away from Congress, coz they dont like Sonia becoming the Prime Minister. The general feeling is – “For a country of the 1Billion people – is there no man, woman or child fit to rule the country that we have to ‘import’ our prime minister!”

BJP is utilising this “sentiment” very well, and if Congress dont do something about it, the results are a foregone conclusion!

the bhoomi programme ? for which the danish government recognised the government of karnataka for helping farmers retain the ownership to their lands.

the mandi linking programme, so crop and vegetable prices remain without too much fluctuation across mandis (rural wholesale markets) across the state ?

the e-governance project which will link administrative units across the state

before levelling allegations do make sure you have some basis for them, and understand the context of the allegations

Its not just about projecting the younger face. They should stop being so protective of the Gandhi family and actually allow leaders to come up through the ranks. You can’t have good leaders (stay) if its pre-determined that they can never be PM.

Yeah the first time a non-congress govt. came into power in 1977… George booted out IBM,Coke etc … and today the same joker is part of the NDA(convenor or whatever) which is doing the exact opposite!

The Congress had a plan, partly inspired from what it’s leaders saw in the USSR … no one could have predicted what happened to the USSR even as late as 1980… so blaming them for everything is not right.

And remember it was an NDA govt. that was in power in the Centre and a BJP government in Gujarat .. and a BJP government in UP in 1992.

BTW I think this whole strong Rupee thing is another ploy by the govt. they probably told the RBI not to intervene… Until last year everyone was talking about the dollar rate hitting 50 or even 55… and all of a sudden it’s at 43-44 ?… the stronger rupee will help them ensure the low/fixed price of fuel until the elections are over… after that both Fuel and dollar rates will probably go up(Fuel rates for sure.)… leading to a much higher rate of inflation in the coming 3-6 months… and then a year later.. the year on year inflation will be very low.. and whatever government is in power will claim to have achieved an economic miracle.

by all means hate the BJP at the center, but ask yourself if you really do hate it so much that you want Miss Italy to rule your beloved country. If it did turn out that Miss Italy becomes PM, we, Indians are indeed quick learners. it took us just 50 odd years to realize that we cannot govern ourselves. Instead we outsource the top job. It may also prove that the freedom movement was in vain as if we were indeed going to “turn in” our sovereignity after 50 years. Gandhi’s ghost may very well be awakened.
I dont have anything close to a sense of humor, it just happens that the subject of politics is way too funny.

I neither hate nor love the BJP/Congress. I believe that the political party that will actually do India some good hasn’t been formed yet, and the perfect person to lead the country hasn’t been born yet.

But taking you up on the argument – this kind of reasoning is meaningless. The best tool/person for the job. It does not matter from where the person is, as long as the country is efficiently governed. Using your argument, I’d easily counter it by saying that Vajpayee is not a south Indian – what does he know about governing this part of the world? Equally meaningless argument, right?

I wish politicians would wake up to the fact that in this day and age, there are two Indias – an India where such meaningless arguments still get you votes, and an India that can think for itself, without “assistance” from politicians.

It may take time, but I believe (and certainly hope) that the second India will eventually win.
