Certified Ethical H4xor ?

Indian National Workshop on Cryptography

Cryptology Research Society of India” (CRSI) is hosting its annual summit today. This year’s workshop, is based on the theme “Applications of cryptology to Information Security”. Satyakam Mishra (certified ethical hacker) and Dr. SA Vetha Manickam of Network Security Solutions, Pune will present a paper on “Software implementation of attack on A5/1 with possible improvements” at the workshop.

“Certified Ethical Hacker” ? – I wonder which dumbass person/company certified him with that 😉

Oh wait, Ankit Fadia , did you get your designation from the same place too ?

So I am not alone in wondering

Personally I always thought Ankit Fadia was the Bill Gates of security (in terms of the Market he has built around himself). Now I see other people have their doubts too. Also any ideas where they got an ethical hacker certificate? Maybe they attended Black Hat cons..

Choice bits from http://www.ankitfadia.com/about.htm (*snigger* .htm *snigger*):

“Planning to get MCP or CISCO Certification Exam.”

    *snort*

“Fav Movies: Titanic, Twister, Entrapment, The Jackal, The Game, Any movie with Bruce Willis or Sean Connery in it.”

    *gag*

“His Software: He is running Windows 95 on one partition and keeps switching between RHL 6.1 and SUSE on the other partition. He has IE 6 installed and mostly uses Outlook Express to receive and send mails. “

This kid can’t be serious. Lets all send him a few OE-breaking attachments. And which Real Hacker would publicise all their contact info for the world to see? This kid just desperately wants to be approached.

I keep getting these junk mails advertising “diplomas, Bachelors, Masters, PhDs from prestigious unaccredited universities”.

I think he must have got some paper from one of those diploma mills.

What is this shit about him being offered a job by the FBI/CIA? Wouldn’t that be ridiculously easy to prove fake? Breaking Osama codes indeed!

This one tears him apart: (some objectionable language)

    Whip up the masses

Nothing like some finger pointing at Pakistan to boil the blood of self-righteous patriotic Bharat-ma lovers. When the citizen is properly cheesed off, in comes knight in shining armour h4x0r fadia to save the day.

The next time one of these hyped up news stories appears in the mainstream press, you should write to the editor with the facts about h4x0r Ankit’s total absence from reputable security fora such as bugtraq.

    Kalyan Varma

    Dear Kalyan,

Don’t put your foot in your mouth, the certification is from the EC-Council(does it ring any bell, It is not Ankit and Band of chuts like you who claim to be Technically High(but turn out to be pip squeak).
Have you read their paper(by the way they are cryptologist also)? It is people like them who have technical capabilities to stand up and claim what they do.

    Re: Kalyan Varma

I dont have have anything againt Satyakam Mishra nor do I question his techinical competency. Infact I have looked at their paper and found it good.

My post was about the designations that people have (or make up).
what is EC-Council ? I would really like to know a organisation that certifies “ethical hackers”. 99% of the time people have funky names like this to attact press attention etc ( which is truly the case with ankit fadia ).

I presume you are Satyakam Mishra?
