Mumbai is one place where I have hardly spent any time. I think I’ve spent a week in mumbai till date. Thats all.

I will remember to ping you when I am there next time 😉

Umm, isn’t 9-pm-sharp DN Road also in Mumbai? Doesn’t the bus service stop at 11 PM? Don’t the trains stop at 1 AM?

D N Road does not sum the entire of Bombay…unless u think town is what Bombay is all about…suburbs play a major role…

D N road is predominantly an office area, not really residential…hence it may seem dead after 9

And I meant life…life isn’t trapped in vehicles, you know? 🙂

If you think by praising Bombay, I am deriding Banglore, then you’re mistaken. I’ve never been to Bglore to comment on its pros or cons 🙂

Yeah a lot has, while somethings are still the same.

DN Road between VT and Flora Fountain has shops along both sides of the street non-stop. It’s a huge market area. At 9 PM sharp every night, it transforms from a market area to a red light area. The transformation is utter and shocking. At 8:30 PM, it’s bustling with shoppers. At 9:30 PM, the shoppers are gone and women in velvet frocks line the pavements looking expectantly at the men walking by. I worked at 210 DN Road for over a year and ate out almost every night, I should know.

But that’s not my point. What I’m pointing out is that the Fort area appears to be the business and entertainment hub of the city (there are four theatres and one night club within 100 metres of each other opposite VT, another three theatres within a few kilometres), and yet the whole area (apart from theatres) shuts down at 9 PM. What kind of a night life is that?

Regarding transport: how are you supposed to get home after a night of life if there is no public mass transport? Are you supposed to bring your own vehicle, or shell out a few hundred rupees in taxi fare? Is night life only for the elite who can afford it?

I’m not saying Bangalore is any better. To begin with, Bangalore does not even have any public mass transport worth mention.

Hahaha…so Bombay is basically Fort and Flora Fountain? 😀

You’re not seeing my point, which is far removed from technicalities, but now all this dissection has sort of ruined it anyway, so you stand by your theory, and I to mine.

Umm, no, what I’m saying is that my Bombay — the areas I lived and worked in — Fort, Dombivili, Kurla, Vashi and Nerul, had no night life. In nearly two years there, I never found any.

Bombay is huge and I am not willing to travel half-way across the city to find some night life. Maybe there is something to do at night at Bandra and Juhu, but how do you get there and back?

In contrast, Bangalore’s sole hotspot, the area surrounding MG Road, is less than 20 minutes from anywhere in Bangalore at night.

Finally, I do see your point. But Kiran, when I said that in life Bombay life begins after midnight, I wasn’t referring to clubs, discs or pubs. Though I think Enigma, J-49 are open till 4 in the morning. Freakingly expensive. Hey, in my area, we even have Udipi joints open till 2 am 😀

Like u said Bombay is huge. And yeah most of this clubbing scene does happen in Juhu, Bandra and Lokhandwala…which is Western Bombay. But the thing is those who were born and brought up here have been travelling from Suburbs to town and back…from central to western and back for so long (for college/work), that the distance factor is only in the mind.

Total stranger in a strange place

Hi, I am a traveller and I’ll be visiting your beautiful city Bangalore in a few days from now. In this 4 day stay, I wanna make a good use of my time knowing the lifestyle, people of Bangalore. Could anyone guide me where to start from? I also love clubbing. But being a solo traveller, perhaps I would’nt be allowed inside most of the clubs. Am I rite? Any info/tips welcome… Thanks.

    like I trust you guys

All depends on where are you staying. If you are close to MG road, then just pack your bags and walk all day its good fun. ( very cultural experience ). There are temples like ISKON and BULL TEMPLE which you should visit.

The most happening place in bangalore is this place called SPINN which is near MG road itself. ping/call me if you need any help while you are here

I should be able to find a place near MG Road or Brigade (they’r supposed to be rocking at nites, rite?!?) Temples are Out.

Reaching on the 12th and leaving on 15th, I wanna make the best use of this time experiencing the lifestyle, people, food that the place has to offer.
Could you please suggest me some lively hangouts? How’s the public transport system there? How’s the nightlife?
