You are broadcasting your IP address ?

I’m just sick of seeing this Ad.

I cant believe a tech company ( so called tech company ) would say something stupid like that. How do they expect the Internet to work without sending the IP address out. I don’t see that as a security problem at all. The Ad is so misleading, I’m surprised no one sued these people yet. When I visit their site, they show my IP flashing in red (I guess they want people to say “look ma, this site has stolen my IP address”) and they actually think my OS is windows. bah. All they do is, pop-up an alert when there is a connect() to any of the ports on the machine.

Also am annoyed by their “Windows Pop-up” style Ads. Even the top bar in their web site looks like a WinXP control panel page.

I fully agree windows is misleading.

My case in the light is similar. Those (hopeless) days when I used to use windblows’ outlook express, I used to get mails with attachment named in the following format :

[filename dot jpg dot vbs OR scr OR exe OR ….(someother idiotic executable)]

( BTW the 256 char. naming has been abused( read : exploited ) thoroughly )

invariably the user and *NOT* the techie will know the difference, save for the included icon. :-(( And what happens is the set of things intended by the programmer of the virus or some of the spyware kinda activity.

And moreover we’ve got options in Konqueror to send the feedback to the query of what we use to any thing we want :

win 95+ IE 6.0 to what all i have no idea. (Not a fan of Konqueror hehe :)) )
