came across this nice piece at atul’s page. I totally agree with him. I mean how many of you people still go out and buy magazines like PC Quest and Digit. I used to buy them every month till 1 year ago. Infact I used to like them so much, I would wait for the whole month for them to come out. But now the quality of the content and focus of these Magazines have completely changed. PC Quest used to have these amazing howto’s and hacks. I still have preserved each and every linux specials of PCQ. These days its pretty much a product catalog . Chip used to give some amazing tech tutorials, but now all they do is product reviews.
I would like to hear your comments on this ..

    I totally agree!!

I totally agree and I did not realise that I no longer missed PC Quest (had stopped buying every other mag way back) till the time Atul told me that March issue was out – It then struck me that I had not only not seen the March issue but not seen the Feb issue of PC Quest either

And what I dont miss – I dont need 😉

I used to be such a regular reader of PC Quest, but now.. I haven’t read an issue in the last 6 months or so, it no longer interests me..

    money for nothing !

    and CD for free ??

anyway, i have never liked CHIP, that was more tabloid types. PC quest was better, my first (and the last one) was Mar ’99 (remember RH 5.1??).

then came this Developer2.0, i bought the first few issues. i havent seen this for a long time though, (probably, no time, bit busy) and more over they are available on the net.

i dont like installing s/w, so no use of the CD for me. I find people foolish trying to buy the mags for the CDs, (the tail wags the dog ?)

I do get 1 mag (for free), as a prize for some competition i won sometime back. they are stacked for later :).

    till then, cheers,

I’ve been a subscriber to PCQ for almost two year now. I never relised it till today that once I close my PCQ mag, I never open it again. It wasn’t so one and a half years back. The new avatars do not carry a punch, do they?

I agree with what Atul says, online access of PCQ isn’t worth taking a second look. Compared to some other websites like PCMag or PCWorld, the PCQ site pales. I haven’t seen the websites of the other Indian mags, so I don’t have an opinion of them.

Yeah, we definitely need better technical publishing.
