Formula 1 fans rejoice ,because it will be coming to India soon.

India will host a Formula One race in the future, the sport’s boss Bernie Ecclestone has said. “We will be having an F1 race in India, for sure. When and where it will be I cannot say,” Ecclestone told Indian news magazine ‘The Week’ in an interview”. I thought it was going to be in Bangalore, though it looks like it will be in Hyderabad. As for tomorrow’s race, things look interesting. Today’s qualifying had too many shockers.

blah

Its been one hectic week.. loads and loads of things happening at work The bangalore office finally went live, officially. Yahoo took over Overture Yahoo announced that it will buy over Iverture, and lot of activity within the company. Also we are moving to a new office next month and loads of preparations going on for that been pretty much reaching home only after 5am. That also meant getting back to work only by evening, and missed all the meeting/all-hands etc at work. Oh well, intend to chill out this weekend and just prey next week goes OK. and now…

when is rains it pours.

A major flaw in cisco routers surfaced this week. By sending a carefully crafted packet, one can completely hang any cisco router/firewall/switch. To make matters worse, the exploit came out today which I think is the reason why I cant access half the sites out there. Took a crash course in cisco routers and cisco security in the last 2 days 🙁 Juniper has put up a nice set of Anti-cisco cartoons 😉 As for other stuff, someone really needs to shove a coconut up Microsoft’s ass. First of all the Homeland Security Department has chosen Microsoft Corp. as its…

back with wc3

After weeks of staying away, I’m back with playing WarCraft 3. We recently got hold of the new expansion pack, with tons of new maps, new heros and the game itself has changed quite a bit. Also with new person in office joining who enjoys the game, now we are playing 2 vs 2. It seriously rocks. Rest of the office is busy with team meetings, team lunches and training blah. This is when being alone in a team kinda gets annoying. I should not complain because I get away with half the things in office which rest of them…

Emacs vs vi

Today at work, the old vi vs Emacs fight broke out. Few new hires joined and bunch of us were trying to help them around with basics of BSD. As soon as I asked him to use vi for editing, another person jumped at me and said I was corrupting the new hires. years and decades pass by and the battle never seems to end. I am primarily a vi user. I started out my unix on SCO ( yeah i know ironic ) and the editor I started out with back then was vi. It took me many weeks…

My website ( http://kalyanvarma.net ) had been hacked, as part of the Defacers Challenge. Go check out the defaced site 🙁 Damn you script-kiddies. Are you happy with your fucking free 500mb webspace now ?

Defacers Challenge!

If you run a website, do watchout. Thanks to the defacement contest, there is a lot of activity within the script-kiddies out there. There is even a warning about it from the us government. There are too many noisy nmap scans too. 🙁

Microsoft Outlook and Security

After getting spammed by outlook users recently with the W32.Sobig.E, I remembered this quote I had bookmarked long time ago. “If Microsoft made your letter box, all some one would have to do is write “Burn the house down” on a piece of paper and post it through the door, and your house would go up in flames.”
