Life Update

Its been two weeks since I’ve quit work and I’m still no where close to deciding my future. I have bunch of options on hand, but I need to weigh them out and choose the one I really want to go after. Meanwhile I have decided what I shall be doing in the next 2 -3 months while I am on the sabbatical break. Here’s what I have in mind Build a Helicopter : jd_knight and me have decided to build a mini helicopter from scratch. Our initial aim is just to make it float and hopefully put in some…

Bruce Schneier’s blog

One of the best security/crypto technologist of our times, Bruce Schneier has started his own blog. I never liked Schneier’s writing when I went through his first book Applied Cryptography. It’s one of those really boring ‘text book’ kinda book. But recently he has changed his writing style and I love his new stuff. His recent book Practical Cryptography is one of the finest crypto/security books out there. I loved the book so much, I even went and bought the hardcover version of it. I highly recommend the book, even though you are not into crypto. You can read his…

Bye bye Yahoo!

This week will be my last week at Yahoo! Bangalore and I finish exactly 3 years at Yahoo this coming monday. Everyday here has been a learning experience. Met some of the brightest minds ever, learnt many valuable lessons in life and Yahoo has pretty much been my second home. I’ve been fortunate to have made some really amazing friends, met many incredible coworkers and I get to take with me some great memories which I can cherish rest of my life. It has been one heck of a ride. I know there will be no other place like this…

Linux Desktop Conference and Beagle

Was at the Linux Desktop Conference today, and as expected Nat Friedman (another pic) and Jon Trowbridge thrilled and inspired the crowds. Jon’s Beagle project seems to be a very interesting. Its a tool for indexing and searching your data, and when I say your data, its your emails, IM’s, files on the hard disk, irc logs and your web data. Looks like Ximian folks have beaten Google/Yahoo/Microsoft and Apple ( well sort of ) to it. I just hope all the Ximian hacks hit stable soon and come out in linux distros.

It’s the journey, not the destination

Drove to Sangam and Muthathi via Kankapura on saturday with bunch of photography friends. The destinations themselves were polluted and crappy, however the drive till there was mind blowing and almost felt like a drive through switzerland. The weather was on our side as well. Too bad I could not do justice to scenery, but I managed to get back few gems. lazy me. Anita has posted a nice write up.

Kabini pics.

Pictures from my kabini trip last weekend. I shot 4 rolls of slides, but only 2 rolls came out well and the photo shop place managed to do a horrible job of the scans. So most of the pics are from my D70. Too lazy to talk about the trip, but all I can say is, I am doing lot more trips in the coming weeks/months 🙂 yathin has a brief about the trip here .

Sex, Lies and Fox Network

Fox News instructed a couple of their reporters to lie in a story about health risks from Bovine Growth Hormone. The reporters refused, and Fox News fired them. The reporters attempted to sue as whistleblowers. Fox’s defence is that they have a First Amendment right to lie, and so weren’t doing anything wrong that would let the reporters qualify as whistleblowers. We all knew Fox always lied, but this time they have publicly acknowledged that they distort news. What’s scary is that a Florida Court agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or…

Wildlife Photography

Today I met two hard-core wildlife photographer’s, M.N JaiKumar and T.N.A. Perumal. T.N.A Perumal is the best wildlife photographer in India and his work spans over 40 years. Very simple down to earth guy and he had great advice to give. He also started shooting using the Nikon D70. He was kind enough to invite me on an expedition that he is doing this week to study flora and fauna near Hampi. Will have to see, as this could mean the end of my weekend vacation plans. Anyway now I am considering serious wildlife photography and prob will be doing…
