MSBlast worm alert ( Originally called Billy)

Looks like a worm based on the recent windows RPC exploit is slowly infecting the windows hosts on the net. In the past hour, there has been a lot of traffic and random machine reboots ( of even machines that are not even connected directly to the net, but inside a LAN – a sure sign of a worm). If you are sysadmin please block ports 135/139/445 and 4444 ( the worm executes commands remotely via this port ) at your router. If your windows machine is rebooting after every 1 min or so, then unplug your machine from the…

Office Shift

Yes, its that time of the year again, when my office does not have space for more people. So once again we are moving to a new, BIGGER place. When we moved to the existing office last year, we were 30 people. Now I think we are close to 130 people and still growing. Apparently the new office can hold upto 400 people. We have a gala inauguration later this week and that means no work ( at least hope nothing important comes up ). Few of the senior execs ( Including David Filo – Yahoo Co-founder )from the US…

Testing prady’s new LJ gaim plugin

Making this post from prady‘s new gaim LJ plugin. If you have no idea what I am talking about, then you should check out this post of his : http://www.livejournal.com/users/prady/17378.html . The code still needs a bit of cleanup, but has the basic functionality working fine. But great work. May the source be with you 🙂

Some people are just never happy with what they have. For them the grass is always greener on the other side… no matter what side they are on

Real life Denial of Service Attack

“Flash mobs”, where people “voluntarily and simultaneously converge” to “partake in a silly and harmless activity” prompts a thought; isn’t this the elements of a DOS attack? http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/internet/08/04/flash.mob/index.html

“Happy Friendship Day”… now enuff

Well it seems today is World Friendship day, and I’ve been bombarded with sms messages and ecards since morning. This really annoys me. 1. If you are a friend and and care about me, then do call and speak. I’d appreciate that. Don’t just forward the same sms with funky picture on it to everyone. I feel you are just showing off your sms ascii art skills. 2. If you have to send via email, then just send a 2 liner mail (Its more appreciated then those damn Ecards) . And *Don’t* sent an Ecard to a mailing list. If…

Boadband @ home

Finally have 24×7 Internet access at home via 24online. Speeds are not all that good, but surely beats dial-up. Also I’m in a scheme with unlimited usage. Its was only 200 bucks more then the 500MB/month limit. Quite an easy setup too. I have a CAT6 cable pulled upto top of my place and a CAT5 from there to my machine. All I need a network card to hook on to the ISP. Only issue is, I have to use a client to connect. Without using the client, the router does not let any of the packets from my machine…

Patent problem

< after some random technical ramble related to work > other person: fair enough – did we just invent this? kalyan_va: yeah kalyan_va: what they call Ugly hack other person: All ugly hacks are potential patents. *Gulp* .. looks like its hard wired into people’s mind.. every great idea is followed with a patent. ( which in this case was just a bad lazy and ugly hack )
