Google to start research and development in Bangalore

http://biz.yahoo.com/rc/031211/tech_google_1.html Google Inc , the No. 1 search engine in the United States, on Thursday said it plans to open its first offshore research and development center in Bangalore, India, early next year. A company spokesman said the move aims to take advantage of India’s “considerable engineering and technical talent” and is not a cost-cutting move. This should be interesting to watch …

Linux-Bangalore/2003 : Day 2

Got lot more time today then yesterday. I actually managed to attend few of the talks and believe it or not I eventually ended up giving my talk. Jeremy’s talk was really wonderful. Slides were well structured and his ‘example for every bullet’ was amazing. I bailed out after his talk and was hanging around the stall for a while. Rasmus meanwhile let me borrow one of his many wifi cards and helped me get online. I can’t believe how sloppy I am with linux now. I had to use his help in compiling the modules ( which did not…

Linux-Bangalore/2003 : Day 1

Thanks to my company stall, I couldn’t attend any of the talks today. Was at the stall most of the time and when I did have free time, I could not enter any of the halls. They were just too packed ( and this year even the 800 seater audi was packed too ). Met tons of old people whom I have not met in years ( Classmates, ex-LUG members , linux-india folks etc.) and tons of people whom I’ve only met online ( LJ users : mannu, teemus,fox2mike, bluesmoon ) There was a mini foo camp kinda thingy in…

one long day…

There is nothing to show in bangalore in one day. Metup with Rasmus, Jeremy and accidently Miguel de Icaza post lunch today. Miguel is a very jumpy guy, almost like a …. well…hmm.. a monkey. No wonder they have the monkey as the logo for Ximian and ofcourse I presume he is the reason why Oberoi hotel has this sign in every room. Anyway he was going insane coz his hair was too long and went off for a hair cut. Took rasmus and jeremy to Vidhan soudha, Bangalore palace , IISc , up and down MG road and Brigade…

My 1st network cable crimping job

Earlier this week, there was a power surge and my place and my machine and my sweet old hub got fried. Lucky replacing the SMPS in the box took care of it. But don’t know about my hub yet. Its a 7 year old , 16 port hub which me and all my friends have been using though out the college days. So got frustrated to know , I could not get my laptop onto the home network. Luckily I borrowed the crimping tool from a friend and googled for cross-over crimping tutorial. After 1 hour of playing with my…

Debian h4x0red ?

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.user/117910 Someone has cracked all the servers of the Debian Project. There has been a severe security mishap and guys should uninstall all stuff downloaded and installed in the past 2 days. Please do not apt-get anything right now! Please wait till an `official’ release happens! Wonder how true this bit of information is. If I were you I would not touch apt-get till this mess is sorted out. btw how many of the LUG oldies remember ragOO ? 😉

Medical checkup

Today I had my pre-joining medical checkup. Coz of some legal issue, I am being rehired into the company and I have to go through the medical checkup for that. Most of the tests were ok, expect for the stress test. Not because it was stressful, but coz they had to stick these sensors on my chest for which I had to shave off my chest hair. Since I did not do it before I got there, a guy at the hospital did it for me. And boy it was a mistake. Not only did he shave it badly, I…
